The CRL Open Cell Backer Rod is a resilient and versatile product that is highly effective in various joint applications. It is made of open-cell polyurethane foam, making it excellent for accommodating joint variations and dynamic movements. This backer rod is especially suitable for areas with joint damage, as it eliminates potential sealant failures that can result from closed cell backer rod punctures.

The product's black color enables it to blend seamlessly with certain joint applications, and it can be used in temperatures ranging from -65°F to 400°F (-54°C to 204°C). It is recommended to be used with high-performance sealants such as silicones and urethanes.

Proper size selection of the CRL Open Cell Backer Rod is crucial, as it directly affects the depth of the sealant bead. It must be oversized (50%) to fit tightly into the joint and function as a bond breaker to prevent bottom-side adhesion of the sealant.

Thorough cleaning is essential for new joints to ensure proper sealant bond, while old sealant or filler must be completely removed when repairing joints. The backer rod should be installed at the depth recommended by the sealant manufacturer, allowing the sealant to form an "hourglass" shape, which is optimal for prolonging the service life of the sealant.

The backer rod's installation should be done using the specified blunt tool or roller. The T607CU605 CRL Backer Rod Insert Tool Set is specifically designed for this purpose. It is packaged in easy-to-unroll spools and shipped in boxes, not bags.

Please note that this product is suitable only for vertical and horizontal wall joints and is not intended for use in horizontal traffic joint surfaces.
