Each CRL FA Series 4/40 and 5/50 Weight Range Sash Balances require specific types of nylon guides to be riveted onto the top and bottom of the channel. Customers have the option to order channel balances with pre-attached guides or order guide kits with included rivets and mount the guides themselves. Additionally, CRL provides the convenient Cat. No. H3740 Rivet Set Tool, which ensures a very strong set by mushrooming the rivet.

The sash balance measures 5/8" (16 mm) in depth but is commonly referred to as 1/2" (13 mm) in the trade. They are available in weight ranges of 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50, with lengths ranging from 13" to 43" (330 to 1092 mm).

1. When measuring the length of the metal channel of the existing channel balance, remember not to include the guides. This measurement should be in full-inch increments.
2. Take note that some window manufacturers utilize special 1/2" (12.7 mm) increment channel lengths, which are not stocked but can be specially ordered.
3. Always look for the stamped or laser-etched number on the back of the channel balance, which will either be four numbers or two numbers and a letter (e.g., 2710 or 27-1).
4. Use the numbers on the back of the channel balance to refer to the chart and find the corresponding CRL Cat. No. based on the length of the channel.
5. The chart also includes a vent weight range, indicating the amount of sash weight that a pair of channel balances will hold. This range does not account for any excessive weatherstrip friction.
6. If the stamped number is too difficult to read, utilize the weight range chart for reference.
