Product Overview
Each CRL FA Series 4/40 and 5/50 Weight Range Sash Balances necessitate nylon guides to be affixed to the top and bottom of the channel. You have the option to procure channel balances with attached guides from the factory or obtain guide kits, complete with rivets, and mount the guides on your own. To facilitate the process, CRL also provides the convenient Cat. No. H3740 Rivet Set Tool, which ensures a robust rivet set.
The balances measure 5/8" (16 mm) in depth but are commonly known as 1/2" (13 mm) in the industry. They are available in weight ranges of 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50, with lengths spanning from 13" to 43" (330 mm to 1.09 m).
Below are some helpful tips for ordering FA Series Sash Balances:
When measuring the length of the metal channel, only consider the channel and exclude the guides. The measurement should be in full-inch increments.
- Special 1/2" (12.7 mm) increment channel lengths might have been used by certain window manufacturers. These are not readily available in stock but can be specially ordered.
- Always check for the stamped or laser-etched number on the back of the Channel Balance. The number usually comprises four digits or two digits and a letter (e.g., 2710 or 27-1).
- Utilize the chart to cross-reference the numbers on the back of the Channel Balance. For instance, if you have a full 18" (457 mm) length channel and the corresponding number on the back is 1710 or 17-1, the corresponding CRL Cat. No. is FA1710.
- Similarly, if you have a complete 27" length channel and the number on the back of the Channel Balance is 2610 or 26-1, the corresponding Cat. No. is FA2610. The chart also includes a vent weight range, indicating the amount of sash weight that a pair of Channel Balances will hold. However, this range does not account for any excessive weatherstrip friction.
- Keep in mind that the weight range chart should only be used for reference if the stamped number is too difficult to read.
Product Warning: The first two numbers of the CRL Catalog Number do not correlate to the length of the channel.
